The world is amazing, and we’re depressed as hell

Pessimism in our modern era is hard to shake. However, it’s worth noting that there are some pretty amazing things about the world in which we live.

Warning that “the end is near” might seem a bit extreme — but, certainly, there’s a sense that the world is headed to hell in a handbasket.

Depression, economic instability, global tensions, political divides… There’s an endless list of social, cultural and political reasons to feel perfectly pessimistic about the world we’re leaving to younger generations. (Actually, younger generations are, themselves, among the many reasons for concern. After all, us adults always worry about “kids these days.”)

However, is all this pessimism and depression really warranted?

Michael Schaus and Dowd Muska dive into some of the more disturbing trends of our modern era and dig deep to find reasons for optimism in our decidedly strange world. Surprisingly, it turns out there are plenty of reason to keep a hopeful attitude about the future — even if it does require a glass of whiskey and a sabbatical from social media to enjoy it.
